MISSION STATEMENT

The main purpose why the Bushikan Budo Kyokai (BBK) and the Matayoshi Kobudo Kodokan USA (MKKU) were formed was to promote and preserve the arts of Okinawa Goju Ryu, Matayoshi Kobudo and Japanese Iai-Do, to be passed on to future generations without any considerations regarding differences of race, religion, color or gender, keeping the practice of the art away from promoting personal egos, agendas, or political reasons.

The Bushikan Budo Kyokai centers its work primarily in the promotion of the arts of Karate and Iai-Do, meanwhile the Matayoshi Kobudo Kodokan USA exclusively focus on the promotion of Matayoshi Kobudo.

A very important request to practitioners interested in joining our Budo Family is to maintain at all times the same standards, not only at the technical level but in the human level because those new members will become an image of our Organization wherever they are. As part of that determination all practitioners that fit such a description are always welcome at our Budo Family.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

One of the main commitments of our Organization is to support our Budo family members offering them constant opportunities for training. As part of that commitment we promote Annual Gasshuku's (camps) and seminars, here in the USA as well as outside the country. The Matayoshi Kobudo Kodokan USA promotes every odd numbered year an International Kobudo Gasshuku in Okinawa taking a team from our Organization to train in the birthplace of Karate and Kobudo, and the even numbered years promotes an equal International Kobudo Gasshuku in our Honbu Dojo in San Diego. Both of these Gasshuku’s are taught by Okinawan/Japanese instructors. The Gasshuku in Okinawa also includes visits to train in Karate Dojos of important Ryuhas in the island as part of a cultural expansion.

I also promote an International Karate Gasshuku in our Honbu Dojo in San Diego every year taught by a Japanese instructor. In addition to the International Gasshuku’s, I also promote and teach Annual National Gasshuku’s in our Honbu Dojo in San Diego as well as in our Dojos affiliated inside and outside the USA where I get invited every year. Gasshuku’s are very important to standardize the instructors and students level and to promote unity among our Budo family members since most of the trainings are three or four days long.

Instructors affiliated from within the USA are encouraged to attend a Gasshuku in San Diego at least once per year as well as instructors from outside the USA are encouraged to attend a Gasshuku in San Diego at least every other year. This is very important to maintain their level and to be able to know the other family members.

SEMINARS AND GASSHUKU’S

As part of the constant support that I offer to the members of our Budo family, I make myself available to travel regularly to conduct Seminars and Gasshuku's (3~4 days training camps) within and outside the USA.
If you are an Instructor living in the USA and have the interest to promote one of these events in your city of residence or proximity, please feel free to check with our Honbu Dojo for availability of possible desired dates.
If you are an Instructor living outside the USA and have the interest to promote one of these events in your country, please feel free to check with our Honbu Dojo for availability in possible desired dates

RANKING PROMOTION

Our Organization offers as part of the many benefits Ranking Promotion. Testing is conducted primarily through the different Gasshuku’s offered by our organization during the year. Instructors are invited to test directly by the Honbu Dojo, and students are invited by recommendation of their Instructors in direct coordination with the Honbu Dojo. Our Kobudo Honbu Dojo in Okinawa, the Kodokan Dojo, recognizes all ranks obtained through the MKKU. The Kodokan Dojo was the Dojo of my Sensei, the late Matayoshi Shinpo Sensei that is still run by the Matayoshi family today.

INTERNET WEB SITE

Our Organization offers to all the Budo family members the benefit of a constantly updated web site at the Internet to maintain information regarding the organization, history, calendar of events and many other beneficial subjects. The site can be found at: http://www.bushikan.com/

It is my hope that I have answered all your initial questions and feel free to contact me if you still have any other questions. I can be reached at (760) 744-5560.
I am really looking forward for this to be the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship with you, and if you are an instructor I hope with your students, too.
Hoping to hear from you again soon.
In Budo and friendship,
